La Vaquita, Houston, a wholly owned subsidiary of Kansas City, Kan.-based Dairy Farmers of America, says it expanded into the butter category. Made with pure cow’s milk with no added growth hormones and no artificial ingredients, the new butter offers a fresh, creamy flavor for a variety of cooking and baking needs. Available in both salted and unsalted varieties, each 8-ounce package contains two 4-ounce sticks. The wraps used on the La Vaquita butter sticks are labeled with tablespoon measurements for ease of use and are also compostable. The butter is currently available at select retailers in Texas.
White Plains, N.Y.- and Broomfield, Colo.-based Danone North America added Oikos blended Greek nonfat yogurt and filled it with 50% more fruit. According to Danone North America, Oikos blended yogurts can be found in the dairy aisle at retailers nationwide with clean, white packaging and images of fresh fruit. The yogurts are available in six flavors: Strawberry, Blueberry, Peach, Cherry, Vanilla Bean and Anything But Plain. Each 5.3-ounce serving includes 12-16 grams of protein, 6-10 grams of total sugar, 0 grams of fat and 90-100 calories. The offerings come in single-serves with a suggested retail price of $1.29; the four-packs retail for $3.99. Vanilla Bean and Anything But Plain flavors are available in larger 32-ounce format for $5.99, Danone North America says.
Castello, a brand of Viby, Denmark-based Arla Foods, says it is expanding its U.S. foodservice portfolio with new Castello burger blue cheese slices that are conveniently sliced and made to melt to elevate any dish. Featuring the characteristics of a Danish blue cheese, the slices transform burgers into a gourmet meal. Authentically produced in Denmark using traditional cheesemaking methods, Castello burger blue cheese slices feature blue mold veins and a fine, nutty aroma with hints of marzipan and the soft bitter flavor of sourdough.
Chobani, Norwich, N.Y., took the sugar out of milk to make the groundbreaking Chobani Zero Sugar yogurt with only natural ingredients. To create the new line, Chobani starts with a milk that’s been filtered to reduce naturally occurring sugar. From there, the company says it uses cutting-edge natural fermentation methods that allow yogurt cultures to consume the remaining sugar. Chobani Zero Sugar is the first nationally distributed product in the U.S. yogurt aisle that has no sugar, the company says. The Chobani Zero Sugar platform includes 5.3-ounce single-serve cups in Vanilla, Mixed Berry, Strawberry and Blueberry varieties at a suggested retail price of $1.49; four-packs of 5.3-ounce cups in Vanilla and Mixed Berry varieties at a suggested retail price of $4.49; and 32-ounce multi-serve containers (in Vanilla) at a suggested retail price of $5.49.
Petaluma, Calif.-based Bellwether Farms’ Plain sheep milk yogurt in a new, larger 24-ounce container is now available at Whole Foods Market nationwide. The company says the offering has a clean, refreshing taste, with no added sugar or artificial ingredients. As with all its sheep's milk products, Bellwether Farms only uses whole sheep milk completely free of added thickeners, antibiotics or growth hormones. Naturally probiotic with active, beneficial cultures, sheep's milk yogurt also is loaded with 100% A2 protein.
Petaluma, Calif.-based Marin French Cheese Co. introduced a new logo and packaging design to increase consumer awareness of its status as the oldest artisan cheesemaker in the United States. The company originated in 1865 when the pioneering Thompson family began making high-quality soft-ripened cheeses using French techniques in the coastal terroir of Marin County, just north of San Francisco. Marin French Cheese Co. says it has long been a favorite of food lovers seeking handmade artisan cheeses. With its rebrand, the company’s products stand out on shelves with new, more visible, easy-to-read labels and colors specific to each flavor.
Belfonte Ice Cream & Dairy Foods Co. says it unveiled new ice cream flavors. Belfonte added two varieties to its Classics line at the end of March — Green Mint Cookie and Chocolate Cookies' N Cream. The Kansas City, Mo.-based company also added to its Loaded Premium line. Three new flavors include Coffee, created through a partnership with The Roasterie — a hometown favorite coffee roaster — and featuring its signature house blend of espresso flavor; KC Kingdom Crunch, created to honor Kansas City’s football team and featuring chocolate malt ice cream with caramel swirl and crispy chocolate pieces; and Brownie Extreme, which was created by a Kansas City fan in Belfonte's 2020 ice cream contest. The flavor is rich chocolate ice cream swirled with caramel and loaded with chocolate chip brownies.
New York-based Icelandic Provisions says it launched an “oatmilk” skyr alternative. Made with “oatmilk” from naturally irrigated oats grown in the Nordic region, Icelandic Provisions “oatmilk” skyr alternative is available nationally in six flavors at Whole Foods Market stores, with additional availability to follow. The offering is made with 1,000-year-old traditional skyr-making methods and heirloom Icelandic cultures — cultivated to grow in a nondairy environment for the first time. It is currently available in six flavors: Plain (in 17.6-ounce containers), Vanilla Bean (in 17.6-ounce and 5-ounce containers), Mango Passionfruit (in 5-ounce containers), Raspberry (in 5-ounce containers), Mixed Berry (in 5-ounce containers) and Cold Brew Coffee (in 5-ounce containers).
General Mills added new products under its Yoplait brand. Yoplait Skittles is a limited-edition yogurt offering designed to taste like the candy consumers know and love with the goodness of Yoplait yogurt. It has a suggested retail price of $0.68 for a 6-ounce cup. General Mills says Yoplait Power is the first national brand yogurt with a unique combination of vitamins D, A, C, E and zinc that may support the immune system (not intended to treat or prevent any illness). Paired with a medley of fruits, creamy yogurt blend and chia seeds, the new yogurt is available in four flavors: Strawberry with Acai and Chia, Blueberry with Blackcurrant and Chia, Cherry with Pomegranate and Chia, and Mango with Orange and Chia. It has a suggested retail $1.29 for 5.2-ounce single-serve cup.
