Welcome to a new era of Dairy Foods!

I want to first thank Kathie Canning for the incredible work she did as editor-in-chief of this magazine.

I really wanted to take on the position of editor-of-chief of Dairy Foods to work in a tremendous industry — dairy — as well as a great company — BNP Media — parent company of this magazine. Beyond that, I am enthusiastic about the digital format of the magazine, which provides the ability to use the digital format to tell stories in different, more engaging ways, as well as the “Let’s Talk Dairy” podcast.

Dairy Foods is the result of many peoples’ hard work. We don’t have room to mention them all, and I am excited to work with a committed staff that do everything they can to make the magazine shine.

Although I am new to the dairy industry and am rapidly learning about it while you read this, I am not new to the food industry. I spent a combined six years working as an editor in the convenience store industry, so I am already familiar with some of the companies in dairy. I am truly looking forward to meeting everyone I do not know.

I am no stranger to dairy at home either. I love ice cream probably as much as anybody, and am a huge fan of cheese. Of course, let’s not forget milk. I am at the supermarket buying milk twice a week these days. My kids — ages 10 and 6 — alone consume a gallon of milk approximately every 2.5 days.

It is such a pleasure seeing them grow literally right before my eyes, and I have milk to thank in large part for that.

Hopefully, Dairy Foods will grow as well. Although we plan to keep many of the great things already incorporated into the magazine, we plan to add some new wrinkles. As we like to say, Dairy Foods is all dairy, all the time. That will never change.

Our goal is to always improve the magazine for our readers and change with the changing times.

Most of all, I hope to get to see many readers at events in the upcoming months. If you see me, please make sure to say “hello.”

In the meantime, please feel free to contact me any time at berkb@bnpmedia.com. I look forward to hearing from you and showcasing new companies and trends in the dairy industry. DF
