Serendipity Brands crafts movie- and TV-inspired ice cream pint flavors; Sargento Foods and Mondelez International join forces to launch Balanced Breaks snacks; Horizon Organic expands Growing Years line.

MOVIE- AND TV-INSPIRED ICE CREAM FLAVORS

New York-based Serendipity Brands announced a partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products culminating in the release of four new ice cream pints inspired by fan-favorite series and movies. The first to be released is the “Friends'' pint, Central Perk Almond Fudge, which is available at select stores and online now. It features decadent chocolate-covered almonds and fudge swirls to create a mocha almond fudge ice cream. Another new flavor, available this month, was inspired by “The Goonies.” “The Goonies” Sloth and Chunk Rocky Rooooaad? pint includes chocolate marshmallow swirl ice cream with fudge-covered almonds. Two other flavors, based on “CaddyShack” and “A Christmas Story,” will be released later in the year, Serendipity says.

DAIRY-BASED SPORTS BEVERAGE

GoodSport Nutrition, a Rosemont, Ill.-based startup, said it launched GoodSport — a sports drink that is 97% dairy and aims to compete nationally against leading brands. This first-of-its-kind natural sports drink, made from the goodness of milk and backed by science, will be available this month at Amazon.com and www.goodsport.com; broader retail distribution is planned for later this year. The product launched with support from the dairy checkoff and other industry groups. GoodSport’s patent-pending formula and process cracked the code to provide naturally powerful hydration in a clear, thirst-quenching beverage. It delivers three times the electrolytes and 33% less sugar than traditional sports drinks. GoodSport comes in 16.9-ounce bottles in four flavors: Lemon Lime, Fruit Punch, Wild Berry and Citrus, the company says.

PREMIUM CHOCOLATE MILK

Modesto, Calif.-based Crystal Creamery says it debuted Crystal Creamery deluxe chocolate milk. Made with farm-fresh Crystal Creamery milk, the offering is blended with premium cocoa to create a richer, intense chocolatey flavor that can be enjoyed every day on its own or used to elevate the mocha or specialty drink experience. The deluxe whole chocolate milk is sweetened with pure cane sugar, not high-fructose corn syrup. In addition, the chocolate milk is made from milk delivered fresh from local family farms, from cows never treated with growth hormones. The half-gallon carton’s suggested retail price is $4.49, and the 12-ounce on-the-go bottle retails at a price between $1.29 and $1.69.

VANILLA ALMOND ‘MILK’

Simply, a brand of Atlanta-based The Coca Cola Co., says it is bringing its reputation of simple and delicious flavors to the dairy alternatives space with a new variety of almond “milk.” The Simply Almond line now includes Simply Almond Original, Simply Almond Unsweetened and Simply Almond Vanilla, as well as the newly released Simply Almond Unsweetened Vanilla, which combines the flavor of Simply Almond with a sweet hint of vanilla. The new Simply Almond Unsweetened Vanilla and other Simply Almond products are available now at grocery stores nationwide in 46-ounce clear carafes. The offerings have a suggested retail price of $3.99.

GOUDA FLAVORS

Old Amsterdam Cheese, a brand of Westland Cheese, Huizen, Netherlands, says it debuted two new Gouda flavors: Old Amsterdam Mild and Old Amsterdam Reserve. The new products join the current line, which includes Old Amsterdam Classic and Old Amsterdam Goat. Darien, Conn.-based Norseland Inc. distributes old Amsterdam Cheese in the United States. Old Amsterdam Reserve is aged for a minimum of 18 months. It has a multitude of deep, rich flavors — with bourbon, caramel and pecan undertones — and a firm, crumbly texture sparked with lots of ripening crystals. Old Amsterdam Mild is a young Gouda that is aged for a minimum of four months and has a creamy and semi-soft texture — making it an excellent cheese for melting, sandwiches and snacking.
